A large number of Armenian refugees who fled to Greece, after the Genocide and the Asia Minor disaster, settled in Kokkinia (now Nikea). The needs of the faithful were initially met in a rented building that operated as a school.

In 1929 the site was purchased by the community and a proper church was erected in 1933 and completed in 1939.
