Official meeting of the Prime Minister Mr Kyriakos Mitsotakis with the delegation of the Armenian Community of Greece

On January 20, a delegation of the Armenian Community of Greece, consisting of His Eminence Archbishop Kegham Khatcherian, the chairman of the Central Council of Orthodox Armenians of Greece, Mr Boghos Tcholakian and the deputy secretary Mr Stepan Papazian, the chairman of the Armenian National Committee of Greece Mr Serko Kouyoumdjian and the secretary Mrs Hripsime Haroutiounian, was received by the Prime Minister Mr Kyriakos Mitsotakis, at the Maximou Mansion. Welcoming the delegation, the Prime Minister mentioned that he was well aware of the history and the activities of the community and expressed his appreciation and interest in its dynamism and creativity and in the fact that its members, along with their responsibilities as Greek citizens, maintain their culture and traditions in an exemplary manner.

The Prime Minister referred to the long-standing relations between the Greek and Armenian people and reassured the delegation that he understood the challenges facing the community. Mr. Mitsotakis also referred to the excellent relations and the high level of cooperation between Greece and Armenia, which are based on the bonds of friendship and mutual understanding, as well as on the positive contribution of the community, and expressed his desire to visit Armenia. The Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction on the recognition of the Genocide by the US two Houses of Congress and noted that the Hellenic Parliament has recognized the Genocide since 1996, demonstrating Greece’s factual support on the issue.

The Archbishop and the members of the delegation congratulated the Prime Minister on the assumption of his duties, they briefed him on matters of concern of the community and in particular on the issue of the schools, while also addressing national issues related to Armenia and Artsakh.

A commemorative present was offered to the Prime Minister at the end of the meeting.
