A monument dedicated to the Armenian Genocide of 1915 was unveiled in Kalamata on Sunday, November 17. His Eminence Archbishop Kegham Khatcherian, Prelate of the Armenian Apostolic Church of Greece, presided over the ceremony. The monument is a khachkar (cross-stone) carved and brought from Armenia. The Regional Governor of Peloponnese Panayiotis Nikas, the Mayor of Kalamata Thanassis Vassilopoulos and the representative of the Metropolitan of Messinia attended the ceremony, as well as the president and members of the Armenian Central Council, members of the Armenian National Committee of Greece and a large number of Armenians. Preceding the inauguration of the monument, a Divine Liturgy was held, at the chapel of Saint Nicholas of Ephesus, which has been granted to the Armenian Community of Kalamata, for the performance of their religious ceremonies.
